In the Shadowmaster’s response to viv’s 4-days-to-go post, he suggested that if his beloved Howard Government lost office he would produce and market a bumper sticker along the lines of

DON’T BLAME ME, I VOTED LIBERAL .

I suggest said sticker should carry an extended rider along the lines of - “but I guess I should take some responsibility for an unnecessary war in Iraq, the unconscionable treatment of refugees and the increasingly diminished international reputation of my country as a nation of uncaring, border-line racist, environmental vandals’’.

You should be able to fit all of that on the rear of your 4-wheel-drive Shadow old son.

Feel free to blame me.

I just can’t believe that the people of Bennelong have decided against one of the best politicians this century has known in favour of a woman who reads the news!

yes, howard replaced by a television personality. says it all.

fossil, i never called howard my beloved. your recollections are obviously clouded, as is your judgement.

so easy to sprout rhetoric, but you do not back it up with facts.

    ho hum

no more, have had enough of politics.

I look at the collective persona of what an Australian is now, and compare to what an Australian was 12 years ago, and wonder, are we richer or poorer for those last 12 years ? Obviously, our monetary wealth has increased, but I can’t help but feel we are somehow “less” as a people. Our national identity has suffered as we have concentrated on increasing our individual net worth, the camel through the eye of the needle etc. Well, at least we can find solace in watching our 50″ plasma’s.

Good grief hannahsgranpa - next you’ll be saying you don’t like Maxine’s clothes or hair-do.

I suggest it is exactly this boring “boys club” dismissal of an intelligent, hardworking, highly honoured journalist, with over 30 years experience in broadcasting as “a woman who reads the news” that lost John Howard his seat.

Shadow - I would call Dicko or Mark Holden a “television personality”. Not someone with such an impressive body of work to their names.

I think neither of you boys would be so slighting or dismissive if it had been a male Journo with 30 years of broadcasting under their belts who had toppled Howard.

I agree with you segue - too many people are voting on the basis of “what’s in it for me”. I hope this will signal a change in our collective vision for the future and what is important in it. I would rather have a bit less myself if it meant lots of other people who needed it could have a bit more.

An i fought eww woz a intaligent gurl … he he he

shadowmaster- see, all things pass, and humor returns.

I could talk about as to whether the public at large understand Maxine as a journalist (credible) or purely
as a woman (equal opportunity for the sake of it) and
a television personality as she was- but i wont.

People keep going on about how much richer we apparently are these days. I’ve gotta say, I am NOT RICHER! AND NONE OF MY FRIENDS CAN AFFORD TO BUY A HOUSE! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT WE ARE RICHER NOW THAN WE WERE 12 YEARS AGO!!!!

I am glad also to see Mr Howard unseated from his throne because it will sever the imaginary tie Mr Bush had in our parliamentary process. It appeared an unhealthy reliance of what America wanted of us, in order to please!

Not only did Maxine unseat John as a woman, but also it took Labor to have its first woman Deputy Prime Minister. Forget the skirts, it is the mindset as females that will hopefully make policies on entering into another’s country’s war agenda, more thought provoking.

Yes, we do have more money than eleven years ago, but quite rightly segue, you’ve hit the nail on the head. In making wealth the MOST IMPORTANT consideration of a man’s worth, we’ve lost some of our souls (not just the Christian version!)….

We could do with less, in order to give others more!

PS Did anyone see Andrew Robb around the traps in Glen Eira? Andrew who? you ask! Julia Mason of the ALP took votes from him indicating it won’t be so hard next time around….

Sorry Goldie, being a good electrician does not make you a good plumber. The gap between their abilities, as the gap between Maxine and Johnny is vast.

And if I were ever to comment on a female politician’s hairdo then it would have to be Julia. In old footage she looks almost fashionable but today….. All I can suggest is that she nips along to Kevin’s snipper and gets a decent cut.

segue and gold totally agree with what both of you have said. As for the misogynists……well, I’m too much of a lady.

  12. 12 golden1

Not the point HG - the gap between their political experience is not in question (her abilities are yet to be tested) - it’s just hard to imagine a male journo with 30 years experience being described as - a man who reads the news or a TV personality. (in fact I don’t think Maxine was ever a news-reader)

Umm, Sorry Joolz, I bought my first house over 12 years ago, so I’ve been lucky enough to move with the market. But it’s true what you say: my first bought home was a unit that cost a bit over two times what I was earning. The same unit now costs 4.5 times what I am earning. Same with food, petrol etc, a much larger percentage of my wage than 12 years ago.

This will be the recession that you voted for!

Okay, how are we going now just after the 20 Minutes talkfest in Apr08? Apart from the overt stunt-making, can we have a list of initiatives made since the Obesity Election? Self-satisfied proletariat rly wanting… something new and shiny. Dear me.

My name is not Bruce and I am not a woman. I don't dislike speaking in double negatives. I am easily bored. I am passionate about the health of my planet yet I own a cat. I vote because I want to not because I have to. I am easily bored and sometimes repeat myself.
