Mote point foss. It’s not a totally bad idea, and crap parents aren’t exclusive to those in the welfare sector. All parents should be answerable for their roles as parents.

Maybe if Howard took some of the excess money that is given to private schools and put it into the public sector, it might make it easier to get and keep the kids there.

government schools are ruled by the intelligentsia viva, it doesn’t matter how much funding you give ‘em they will still be dysfunctional. private schools give an opportunity for diverse learning experience, especially schools that TEACH and encourage independent thought. parents of kids that go to private schools pay taxes too!! the funding per child is far greater than the small allowance for each child in a private school.

oow. oow. oow……theark1. Are you generalising????? My daughter went to Boxhill High……..government funded………..and definately not dysfuntional !! A small school albeit. And what oportunities she had there !! She travelled on the train some distance to get there, as they gave her many opportunities for diverse learning- accelerated at that. My nephew on the other hand………private school……….into drugs! Go figure.!!

Oh Winnie, I did come over a bit judgemental (sorry). there are many quality Government schools, with lots of hard working teachers and families that contribute. That said, the lack of ability to direct and change curricula to the student is impossible in that system. Too much time is wasted (particularly in primary school) on politically driven curricula (such as LOTE) and not on ensuring a solid grasp on grammar and mathematics. The single most important thing is the home environment and family support I think.

(foss you can’t just have 3 comments (hate for you to abandon nook),(though now it’s 4, though this make 5) the number we seek “42″, follow me).

You were a bit judgemental ark, though also right too, they do lack the ability to change & adapt curriclum to suit the student (& LOTE is totally a waste of time for a large number of students).

Yes parents of students that attend private schools do pay taxes but, if they voluntarily choose to place there children into private schools they shouldn’t expect to be funded in excessive by the public sector, especially if it is taking funds from the majority (also tax payers) who use the public system.

Winnie yes there are some great government school but all government schools should be great. The distribution of funds isn’t equal between private & public & then again between public schools. There shouldn’t be elite government schools with select entry. All government schools should be equally funded and resourced and no government school should have select entry the most that should be allowed is zoning.
