Some guy linked his very first post to his own Nook - turned out to be admin but still a great - if somewhat self indulgent - idea. So for those who missed them here are some of my favourite posts by me: Anzac, water, god and another good book

Here are my two all time favourite posts: HG - a great question with great responses, Brian - great post by a scary-smart nooker but you can probably skip the tedious “you’re an idiot, no you’re an idiot'’ debate that ensues with the dearly departed Ack.

I assume Ack’s not dead - he just doesn’t like nook any more. I’m not sure nook liked him all that much either, but I sometimes miss him.

Does anyone else think this is a great idea? Or are the fever and sleep deprivation getting to me?

I for one don’t believe ackbar is gone for good (or that he’s dead for that matter). There must be millions of different ways (still) for him to say the same thing over and over, again and again, then once more for good measure. He’ll be back as sure as there’s a God in heaven. Let’s show some faith. Even I miss him.

hey Fossil - I’m not entirely convinced that ackbar has gone. Someone else has appeared with remarkably similar style and opinions.

By the way - I love your new profile picture.

  3. 3 solomongrundy

Does this ackbar wannabe have a name or avatar?

  4. 4 brian

Well noticed golden I was thinking the same one thing

  5. 5 brian

Fossil, do you get the impression your question hasn’t raised a lot of interest when everyone starts to talk about something else, sorry I think its a great idea.

  6. 6 brian

Golden add “YOU ARE” to the end of that sentence, sorry my fingers got ahead of my mind:)

Sorry, in my haste to go off on an ackbar-fuelled tangent I overlooked the question. Excellent idea and a great “best of” collection, fossil. I for one would enjoy seeing other people’s favourites.

Here is an idea. What if nook were rename the “friends” panel to be “favourites”. That way we could feature links to our top picks.

As an example, check out the right-hand “friends” panel at http://trev.nook.com.au/ (and just for a minute pretend it said “favourites” instead).

There I’ve previously listed a few nook under the “Friends” panel, along with comments as to why they might be worth a visit. But instead of linking to the top page of these nooks, it would be equally possible to link to specific posts (much like those in fossil’s original question).

Oh no, not more favourites ! Favourite poems, favourite way to say goodbye, favourite cakemix, favourite way to crochet your braincells into a Gordian Knot. Soon we’ll have a favourite list of favourites. Naturally, I don’t expect to feature in that one either.

  10. 10 trev

Well “Doc”, take a look now at the “Friends” list over at http://trev.nook.com.au/ - your post about bikes now features there as a “favourite”.

  11. 11 fossil

Right, so not an original idea then Trev? I actually hadn’t thought of using my friends list like that but will do from now on.
Finding and pointing to your favourite stuff on the net was pretty much the original purpose of web logging/ we blogging wasn’t it?
Brian are you saying that You are Ackbar? - pretty weird given the heated arguments you guys enjoyed. I feel cheated. :)
Sol, I too would like to see nookers’ own favourites lists. I was a relative late-comer and no doubt missed some gems amoungst the “i want an ipod'’ rubbish. Be assured Dr Fell, you will not appear on my list of favourites - one of many things I have in common with the long-dead Tom Brown: I do not like thee Dr Fell.
Golden do you think youare is Ackbar too? I don’t see the resemblance.

  12. 12 meinrosebud

It must be a ascent ack… er Trev.

  13. 13 Dr. Fell

Friendship, fossil, is something precious to be cherished. Not something to be squandered or frittered away on some ephemeral screen acquaintance. The fact that I am not on your list of favourites pleases me immensely and, naturally, I am more than happy to reciprocate.

Oh, and of course, you are so right. You really do have have many things in common with the long-dead Mr Brown !

  14. 14 Lady Chaos

Yeah, I’ve been wondering where Ackbar’s gotten to lately. I kind of miss those religious arguments we’d have… And with no clue to his whereabouts, I’m going to assume that he’s sitting in church reading a Bible. ;)

Seriously though, I think he once implied that he did have a separate Nook for slightly-less-atheism-centered posts, but perhaps I just misunderstood… (I’d find it, but you know what digging through Ackbar’s posts for something written in the comments is like…)

I guess as with any web community people disappear occasionally and resurface later revealing that they’ve just been terribly busy with a new baby/exams/sport finals/etc.

(And thanks for putting my nook in your favourites list, Trev! :D )

Not anymore Fossil, it was but a stray thought relating to a particular post.
I now think that Ackbar has changed his identity, got a job at McDonalds and is flipping burgers with Elvis and Jim Morrison.

    (_x_) doc

  17. 17 golden1

    Hi Fossil
please excuse my ignorance but what does (_x_) doc mean?

  18. 18 Dr. Fell

I believe its a puerile attempt at an insult from someone seemingly unable to compose a cogent rebuttal. Naturally, as such, it is quite unworthy of comment and shall therefore be treated with disdain.

  19. 19 fossil

’tis true - both purile and insulting. And justly deserved.

  20. 20 butterfly

Golden, I fear you have missed fossil’s clever cyber bitch slap to the doc. Without revealing too much detail (and therefore increasing my chance of being forever nooked off), I encourage you to take a closer look at this graphic. Hmmm … a rounded shape, defined by two horizontal *cheeks*, and centred with an inviting (ahem) xx_kiss_xx that surely covers all shades of brown. I believe the foss was delivering a gluteus maximus insult of epic and symmetrical proportions, and one that has indeed come to define our generation. So, I salute all the nookers out there with a very hearty (___x___) people!. Please note the increased size of my graphic …
    Carry on.

  21. 21 golden1

Thankyou butterfly, I appreciate you taking the time to enlighten me. I had kind of figured out that it had something to do with Fossil and Drfell’s ever increasing hostility toward each other but beyond that it had me stumped. All is now clear. Carry on.

  22. 22 Dr. Fell

My dear golden1, it seems I am doomed to being misunderstood. I do not feel hostility towards fossil. Truth be known, I feel little at all. It is my vanity to enjoy playing with his vanities - naughty, I know, but I just can’t resist it. Any real hostility would soon be filtered out by admin (unless of course, I had cause to visit my true wrath on someone, in which case, naturally, nothing would save them).

    Oh, carry on, please.

  23. 23 ackbar

    I miss me too.

  24. 24 fossil

Good to see you ya Crazy kid. How are things in the land of Ack?
