Yes, it seems there was a critical flaw in the original design. Don’t worry though, there has already been a recall put in place. Eventually every one will go back to its maker.
you left one thing out there foss ol boy ..
No people do violent and stupid things in the name of No God.
People are violent and stupid for any number of reasons (and taking away one, e.g. religion, won’t solve that).
But most people are awesome and kind, sharing and interesting!
Most people I know think that I’m crazy!
we dont know that yet lady chaos , as we have never been free of it …
so , how about we give it a try ….
there are a whole bunch of stats that show less religious = less crime along with the ones that say less religious = more smarterer
….
so … maybe the decline of religion will be the next major evolutionary step for mankind.
I think he was actually misquoting there ozweb , it was meant to say
“Most people I think know that I’m crazy!
Something I think that I interpreted from a Noam Chomsky paper was his opinion that - human beings innately value social justice and co operation. As opposed to the social constructivist view that the human being is essentially an ‘empty vessel’ to be filled - meaning therefore they are subjected intrinstically to accept any kind of values and attitudes to their world based on ‘what’s going’ in society. (i.e regarding liberty, equality, diversity, or greed, competition and power relations etc.)
Chomsky says that because human nature is inherently variable - it is important to acknowledge the concept of a society in which everybody is fundamentally free, in relation to being free from domination and control from external sources.
Unfortunately, religion which could be simple, has been the basis of violence and horror in human history.
Chomsky’s prompt that human beings innately benefit from freedom and co operation, rather than competetion and restriction is credible.
The question is not really about human belief or faith I don’t think - but it is about freedom, diversity, open mindedness and acceptance.
I think this gives some hope, that human beings regardless of the concept of religion or spirituality - are biologically suited to get along, to co operate, to be interdependent and free. I will argue that to some degree, these possibilities require intelligence.
People are violent and stupid except for me too fossil’ that is except for if some one sits up my butt in 40 zone.
People HAVE been violent and stupid in the name of No God - the elimination of religion was an ideological objective of early Soviet communism. Believers were harassed, beaten, jailed and killed. Atheism was propagated in schools.
In Maoist-era China the Communist Party’s “three self movement” was initiated to eliminate any form of religious practice that was not entirely under direct government control. Mao may have held the traditional Marxist view that religion would in time die of itself and that persecution was self-defeating, but in reality Chinese religious leaders were beaten, imprisoned, executed in the name of No God.
People are violent and stupid in the name of ideology, any ideology, even anti-ideology.
People are violent and stupid.
- except me, and Viv who is only occasionally violent during low-speed road rage incidents, and everyone Lady knows - they’re all awesome and kind and interesting - and titch here is clever enough to interpret the works of the father of transformational grammar, so she’s clearly not violent AND stupid. But if I may be so bold as to make a generalisation and at the risk of sounding trite:
People are violent and stupid.
My grandfather used to say “The whole world is queer ‘cept thee and me, and even thee is a little touched sometimes!”
Perhaps we could bring it up to date. “The whole world is violent ‘cept thee and me, and even thee is a little stupid sometimes!”
You can be stupid without being violent but can you be violent without being stupid?
Fossil are you a schoolteacher? If not you should be you would make a great history, economics or politics teacher
Thanks Skyhooks. Tried teaching - five years. Biology, maths, english. Don’t miss it.
Of course you can be violent without being stupid, look at me. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT !!! Look at Clockwork Orange, violence as an art form. Violence can be stimulating but when it is, like all stimulants, it needs to be controlled.
lol Dr.Fell
Ackbar its not the first time you’ve made that claim and I notice (Arch Bishop) Dawkins says the same thing, in fact he say a lot of the same things as you, its made me think is it right? Then fossil mentions Mao and I thought of Pol Pot, unless you are calling communism a religion, I think 2million Cambodians slaughtered is not real flash.
Ackbar to quote YOUR (pope) Steven Weinberg “With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” The first part dispels what your saying. The second part is just plain biased and dumb. Good people who aren’t religious never do evil things !!, what was he on that day or is it just that he’s so distorted by his intense dislike of religion.
